Motorists have been encouraged to check the conditions of their car insurance as cold weather is creeping in across the UK.
Moneysupermarket.com, a price comparison website, advised people to check that they have adequate cover in place for breakdowns and winter problems.
Pete Harrison, insurance expert with the site, commented: “As the weather gets colder, it's important drivers are extra vigilant and suitably prepared for the conditions before getting behind the wheel. Motorists should ready themselves and their vehicles for ice and snow before taking to the roads, as well as thinking ahead about the increased risk of breakdowns and accidents caused by the hazardous conditions.”
He added that people also need to make regular checks of their vehicles themselves to avoid being the victim of a breakdown. There are a number of other precautionary measures that drivers can take if they are setting out on a long journey, including checking the oil levels in their vehicle, putting antifreeze in it and looking at their tyres and hazard lights to make sure they are in good working order.
Meanwhile, a number of car insurance policies also offer access to breakdown cover, which will help with peace of mind when undertaking a long journey.
