The Society of Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has released a statement, urging the incoming government to give greater support to the motor industry in the UK.
The motoring sector says that it is in desperate need of financial aid to transform its business arena and offer solutions to the increasing problem of potholes on the roads and general road maintenance.
The SMMT has said that by maximizing the skill resources available in the UK, it is possible to secure the long-term future of the motoring industry. However, with car insurance premiums increasing and consumers increasingly looking for ways to bring costs down, the SMMT is urging the winners of the General Election to do what they can immediately in order to safeguard jobs in motoring.
Paul Everitt, chief executive of the SMMT, stated: "The UK motor industry has managed to sustain vital industrial capability through the recession and is now looking to exploit a strengthening economic recovery."
Mr Everitt went to on to ask the new government to provide financial assistance for research and development, and to work with the Automotive Council to help avoid problems like the pothole issues that arose last winter, which damaged UK roads and caused car insurance premiums to rise significantly.
