A report from Axa Car Insurance has found that UK motorists under the age of 25 are 30 per cent less likely to claim compensation than drivers of a similar age in other parts of central and western Europe.

The director for motoring at Axa Insurance, Craig Staniland, commented: "In Britain we do seem to be performing better than our European neighbours and as a whole seem to be more concerned about the issues surrounding young drivers."

This comment has backed up efforts that are being made to educate young drivers and make them aware of road safety issues in the UK. For example, it was recently revealed that the Insitute of Advanced Motoring has teamed up with the insurance industry to offer cheaper car insurance to young drivers completing an advanced driving course.

Mr Staniland also said that he would like to see what he called "old fashioned values" of etiquette back on UK roads.

The study by Axa also showed that 25 per cent of people in the UK would prefer the age limit for drivers to be increased and 14 per cent of those surveyed said that they would like curfews to be introduced.
