As an incentive for younger drivers to be safer on the road, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has arranged cheaper car insurance premiums for those that have passed an advanced driving test.

The IAM Safety Insurance is available from Adelaide Insurance and is exclusively for IAM members. Up to now, only those drivers aged 21 or over could qualify for the insurance scheme but this has now been extended to the over 19s.

It is part of IAM's campaign to target the most at-risk motorists on the roads. Although they constitute only 9 per cent of the UK motoring population, drivers under the age of 25 are involved in approximately a quarter of all serious and fatal accidents on our roads. The IAM wants to do its bit in tackling the issue.

IAM's chief executive, Simon Best, explained: "The insurance industry has been quick to penalise young drivers, but is much slower to do anything to help improve their driving standards. By introducing a financial incentive, IAM Surety is going some way towards improving young drivers’ skills and behaviour on the road, and investing in their driver education at a time when they need it most."
