Motor insurance customers in the Manchester area have been warned by police to lock up their vehicles and "remain vigilant" after two recent car-jacking incidents.
One was a failed attempt during which the offenders failed in stealing the vehicle, but motorists are reminded of the costly car insurance consequences if they don't take basic sensible precautions.
"Both incidents feature a group of offenders targeting high-value or high-performance vehicles and in one case a woman was driving alone," notes Detective Constable Alan Smith from Greater Manchester Police.
"Car-jacking is a vicious crime that is often linked to other forms of criminality," he continues. "To make yourself as safe possible, remain vigilant and aware of what is happening around you when approaching or leaving your vehicle and while driving."
Motorists suspicious that an accident has been "staged" to make them stop, or concerned that they are being followed, are advised to drive to the nearest police station to report it or to a safe public place where there are potential witnesses.
It's also recommended that motorists driving alone ensure their doors are locked and that anyone with remote locking only opens their doors when they reach their vehicle.
