Motorists are being reminded of the impact of speeding convictions on the cost of their car insurance as research reveals the worst areas of the UK for "boy racers". Experts found that Scotland, Swindon and Sheffield contain the postcodes with the most speeding convictions.
According to Money Supermarket, more than half of speeding convictions in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland belong to male drivers aged between 17 and 21 – the demographic known to pay some of the highest prices for car insurance.
Following its analysis of nearly three million motor insurance quotes over a year from individuals with driving convictions, the comparison site also found that 52 per cent of speeding convictions in Swindon and 30 per cent in Sheffield are held by men in the 31-40 age bracket.
The site's Steve Sweeney warns that people convicted of speeding could see their motor insurance costs almost double: "It is telling there are no female drivers anywhere near the top of the table in our analysis of speeding convictions, and unfortunately this is reflected in the price of premiums for men when compared to women."
"Serial speeders" will find fewer providers willing to insure them and at increased prices, he concluded.
