Car insurance customers living in Cornwall, Scotland and Suffolk benefit from the UK's most competitively-priced premiums, according to the latest research.
On Money Supermarket's new compilation of the cheapest UK postcodes for car insurance, Cornish capital Truro ranks as number one, followed by the Scottish regions of Dunfermline, Glenrothes, Dundee and Aberdeen. Penzance also makes an appearance in the top ten.
Car insurance experts at the comparison site analysed a million motor insurance quotes over 12 months, discovering that drivers in Birmingham and Manchester live in the most expensive postcodes for car insurance. Overall, motorists in Manchester could find their policies set them back around £500 more than those of their counterparts north of the border.
Steve Sweeney, head of motor insurance at the site, points out that the price of car insurance is determined by "an array of factors", including crime, population levels and even where a vehicle is parked in a given region.
"If your area is classified as 'high risk', insurers who don't assess motor insurance on an individual basis may adopt a blanket approach and many motorists could find their insurance is quite high to compensate for this," he concludes.
