Car insurance retailer Swinton has revealed that over half of learner drivers in the UK are "panicked" by the prospect of parallel parking.
A survey by the high-street car insurance firm shows a further 22 per cent of novice motorists are "terrified" about reversing around a corner, while 16 per cent will go out of their way to avoid turning right at a T-junction.
Swinton's study of 1,500 learner drivers also indicates that 81 per cent expect to pass their practical test first time, with just eight per cent worried about failing their theory test.
The car insurance provider's development manager, Steve Chelton, acknowledged that learning to drive can be "nerve-racking and quite frustrating" for some individuals.
"It's a long and slow process that requires concentration and patience," he added. "Learners must learn to overcome any anxieties and try to remain calm, as nerves can often inhibit their ability to drive safely and make rational decisions."
Swinton, which also provides van insurance, urged van drivers earlier this month to check their lights, signals and tyre condition before embarking on a long day, after research showed more than half are working over 50 hours a week during the recession.
